Paul Muldoon: Laoithe ‘s Liricí

(Paul Muldoon: A Life In Lyrics)

2022 / 75 mins / directed by Alan Gilsenan

Irish Film London are very excited to present director Alan Gilsenan’s collaboration with poet Paul Muldoon as part of Irish Film Festival London 2022.

In this bi-lingual documentary musical from acclaimed director Alan Gilsenan, the poet Paul Muldoon explores life and language in a series of musical collaborations with a stellar array of artists including Paul Simon, Liam Neeson, PJ Harvey, Bono, Ruth Negga, Paul Brady, Run DMC and Larla O’Lionáird.

For the Irish-born, Pulitzer prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon, music matters almost as much as poetry. He sees little difference between a poem and song lyrics.

In this Alan Gilsenan directed documentary, key moments in Muldoon’s creative life, which began with him writing poems in Irish as a schoolboy, are explored by many of the musicians Paul has worked with in words specially written by him. The unique and innovative format of this Irish language film reflects the allusive and playful poetry of Paul Muldoon who narrates this film. Among those taking part are Liam Neeson,

Ruth Negga, Paul Simon and PJ Harvey reflecting Paul’s personal and professional life on both sides of the Atlantic.

For fans of music, poetry and literature alike, this event will be unmissable.

Director Alan Gilsenan will join us for a Q&A at Vue Piccadilly on Sunday 20th November.
