PG / 101 mins / Comedy / Ireland / 2010
Dir: Ian Power
Featuring: Kerry Condon, James Cosmo, Demián Bichir, Jamie Kierans
Special features: Kids Workshop with Kabutar Arts after the screening
The Runway is based on a true story of self-taught Spanish speaker Paco (Jamie Kierans), who finds himself turned translator when Colombian Ernesto (Demian Bichir) crash lands near Paco’s village of Dromoleen.
With an absent father, Paco immediately takes to Ernesto and encourages the town to come together and build the runway needed to get the pilot’s plane back in the sky. Finding his chances of getting home improving, Ernesto grows close to both his young saviour and his mother Grace (Kerry Condon), proving to be the father figure Paco has been waiting for.
Using its real life basis as a starting point, The Runway turns its raw materials into a heart-warming drama about an unexpected visitor finding a second home in a family and a town changed utterly by his arrival.
This festival screening is a part of the Mayor of London’s St. Patrick’s Parade and Festival 2020.
And after the screening the amazing Kabutar Arts are joining us for a craft workshop for young people aged 5+, where they’ll be able to create their own unique crafted characters based on the characters from the film!
Please note that tickets for the film screening do not automatically book children into the workshop. Craft Workshop places are limited and must be booked separately, and in advance by emailing us at info@irishfilmfestivallondon.com
