Community Fundraiser - The Young Offenders

  • English Martyrs Church Wembley, England, HA9 9EW United Kingdom (map)

In Memory of our late volunteer Cathy Twomey, we supported this fundraising screening of The Young Offenders at the Martyrs, Wembley Park

By Jonie Cotter

“Cathy Twomey, who volunteered with the Irish Film Festival London unexpectedly passed away while home in County Cork in April 2017.

As well as her work with the festival, Cathy was heavily involved in the parish of the Church of the English Martyrs in Wembley Park. She was also a member of the governing body at St Margaret Clitherow primary school in Neasden.

Cathy was a tremendous worker and supporter of a range of community projects, as well as the film festival. Cathy lived her faith on a daily basis by the way she treated everyone she met. She touched the lives of generations of children and adults with her constant support.

She was a very quiet person but despite this she was always ready to help and was a willing pair of hands. The school and the parish both benefited immeasurably by her dedication, faith and help. That devotion will be sorely missed.

With her passing, a light has gone out in all of our lives.

In line with her commitment to St Margaret’s and the future of the pupils, we are certain Cathy would have loved to have this special screening of the Young Offenders to raise money for additional resources for the new school building.”

The Irish Film London team would like to thank Jonie, Mary and the rest of the amazing people involved in pulling together this wonderful night in Cathy’s name, and for inviting us to be a small part of it. We’re sure that Jock and Conor, the film’s leads will bring some joy to the night, and the scenes of Cork will be a familiar sight to many of Cathy’s friends and family.
